The Memories
Alyssa comes to; in a field so green you can feel it. She went under again enveloped by them. ‘What do I call this’ she always asks herself, ‘spells? hypnotism? magic? I don’t get’. It hits her when she can’t take it anymore, actually when her body and mind can’t hack it no more. Could be at work, at home with family, anywhere, its been this way for two years now, ever since she turned twenty, oh its been there all along but she’s been suppressing it, knowing the weight its grown to she's not shocked it takes her way under each time it happens, no wonder she’s been avoiding it, so overwhelming. When it hits she goes to the place, you know that special place we call our solace, Ally calls it home. Her home is not your usual house with roof thought but nature, nature at its purest. You see she always feels alone, so when Ally was a little girl she built her own home. I know what you’re thinking, what’s a 22 year old adult doing dreaming up imaginary homes in this day and age. You see it’s not imaginary or not anymore though. Ally feels the waves beckon unto her soul, the tress and the sand on the beach calls to her, the field and the lowly meadows, the mountains and hills alike calms her troubled mind. Ally’s solace is secluded parts of nature far from every eye.
She's barely 5, she's on her pretty mermaid dress, the one she likes so much, her favorite, she's so angry because the sticky dried weed in the front yard has clung to her gown and wont all come off, she's been out playing alone as always, the parents aren’t yet back from work, its just the little kids and a man servant. You can’t be safe with the man servant can you, especially little girls like ally and her sister but that is beside the point.
Today Ally was bullied in school by an older classmate. Ally was ill and couldn’t do more than cry when the little bully ate all of her lunch. Back home she's sad but no mummy to talk to, mummy is busy at work. Ally doesn’t really like daddy much because he’s barely home and whenever he is he beats mommy most of the time, it doesn’t hurt much when he hits the little kids but it pains when Ally has to watch him hit mummy and he does so in front of the little ones too. It scares them all.
Ally runs down the back path to that place mummy says to never go to, but she wants a bubblegum so she sneaks out not telling the older little ones. As she passes the pool table place she tries not to run but walks faster trying to playoff being tough but failing as she sees the big scary looking men playing pool. She feels stupid for not coming with big little brother, he always keeps her safe not minding whoever it might be trying to hurt her, she smiles as she thinks of him, he’s her best friend but he doesn’t know that, Ally gets lost in her thought she forgets where she's at, she feels a pull on her arm when she turns she notice that the men are bearing down on her…….
‘Lyssa Lyssa! Wakeup already I’ve been here for over an hour, what’s wrong with you this time huh’
Ally stares and rubs her arm with one hand ‘cause it throbs and wipes off the sleep from her eyes with the throbbing hand. She looks up into the eyes of her best friend Tricia.
‘Oh sorry, guess I was tired or something, that why you wanted to pull my arm off? Damn girl you’re vicious’
‘You were writhing and whimpering and I was trying to get you to wake up but you wouldn’t budge, scared the shit outta me you know. What was that all about?’
Not wanting to worry her further Lyssa brushes it off ‘lets go out for dinner I’m starving, haven’t had anything since breakfast.’
While they walked to the restaurant around the corner Lyssa tries to no avail to get the missing parts of the memories back, hiding her thoughts from Tricia is so hard but she powers through.
‘Tri Tri, what’s up for tonight?’ Lyssa asks as they get a table in the restaurant.
‘Uh weirdo why you asking? Not like you’d go out or something. Your hermit status is off the chart these days girl I gotta tell ya’
‘ha-ha very funny, but seriously, I think I need a night of fun, we should go out its ladies night right, we could get lucky you know’ Lyssa smiles wiggling her brows
‘no inkling what’s gotten into you but yeah lets go have fun, oh and don’t think you’re off the hook yet, I’m just giving you time to get yourself together, you gon spill what’s bothering you and soon’ Tricia says making Lyssa gasp and avoid her eyes.
‘hmmph I hate the fact that you know me more than I do myself.’
